Capital Columns and Trim now offers Design services to assist you in making your visions come to life. We provide a professional consultation at your home. The structure doesn’t have to be finished, we can work off a set of plans or drawings. We will answer all your questions and discuss what materials would work best for your particular situation and budget. If the job is somewhat complicated, a 3D rendering can be created to bring the idea to life and make changes as different ideas come up.
N.K Job in East Toronto
We were called in by the NK family to help finish their newly completed custom home’s front porch. They were considering using an standard Aluminum Soffit that would match the rest of the trim used on the exterior of the home, the same colored aluminum was to be used to clad the support beams. The customer was open to ideas and wanted to see something a little different (if possible) as Aluminum was over done and he found that if not installed properly, the aluminum could look sloppy. He asked whether a solution could be found in which a Weather Proof material such as PVC could be used to finish the inside ceiling, wrap the wood supports and clad the support beams to match the columns.
A drawing of the Front Porch was made with dimensions and many pictures were taken so that a 3D Rendering could be made from the information gathered. Many ideas were discussed but a Square Recessed Panel look was chosen for both the Columns and the Support Beams. After carefully considering the customers ideas and choice of materials, we came up with a solution to use a Tongue and Groove PVC Bead Board on the ceiling of the porch, Custom Square PVC Column Wraps with a Recessed Panel center and Custom made (on site) cladding for the support beams, made to resemble the Column Wraps.
A 3D rendering was then created to scale. It was a full walk through that allowed the customer to see what his home would like like after we completed the installation. Rendering is an extremely useful tool that brings ideas to life before a single nail has been hammered in. Although a rendering is time consuming, it can easily be changed along the way if we or the customer want to make a change.
Below is the end result of the process, a fully paneled support beam that matches the PVC Columns that wrapped the existing wood supports. The Bead Board ceiling had to be custom cut and fitted to fit flush against the stone. PVC is only available in white, the customer will be painting everything to match the rest of the trim when the weather gets better in the spring.
